Merocel nasal packing with airway: a method to help secure full-thickness skin grafts on the nasal tip.

Madam, A disproportionate number of nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSC) occur on the face, and in particular on the nose. Surgical extirpation of a NMSC on the nasal ala or rim often leads to a defect where a full-thickness skin graft (FTSG) or composite graft is required to repair the defect. After sutures have been used to secure the FTSG, graft immobilization can be achieved with a bolster. The depth of the defect may preclude close apposition of the graft undersurface to the wound bed.Thus, some surgeons use a dental roll for nasal packing to provide further support and to aid graft survival. Unfortunately, this can be uncomfortable for the patient, as it restricts the entry of air into the nostril.
