Pests and diseases are less likely to have a significant impact if the crop is vigorous. At the beginning of the 1990s, investigations began into the possibilities of controlling plant growth through water content management in stone wool substrates.It has become very clear that any vegetable crop can be stimulated to grow in either a vegetative or generative direction. Undoubtedly the research confirmed that as is the case with the various environmental controls at the grower's fingertips, water management is definitely another tool for the grower to use in order to manage the growth and production of the crop. Water management in the modern greenhouse using stone wool is defined as influencing the root zone climate on a seasonal and daily basis,so that crop growth and production is managed in the optimum direction while efficiently using water and fertilizer.
