How do we boost floriculture research? Industry groups brainstorm to suggest possibilities

Flowers Canada (Ontario), along with Flowers Canada, the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, and Landscape Ontario sponsored a conference for the floriculture and ornamental horticulture industry to discuss future research needs. For two days inToronto last August, representatives from provincial and federal government agencies, universities, greenhouse growers and managers, grower groups, industry associations and other non-government agencies met to look at the few dispersed research programsand to discuss projected research requirements. Researchers from around the country, such as Campbell Davidson, Blanche Dansereau, John Sutton, Theo Blom and Will Nichols, to name a few, gave updates of research activities based on four major themes: Pathology, entomology and pesticides. Plant breeding, biotechnology and new plant material. Environmental impact and environmental control technology. Applied horticulture.
