The well-known Canadian-based horticultural supplier is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. Trial gardens have long been part of its operations. "The trial gardens have been very important in their role of testing new products before introduction into the catalogue and as a quality check on seed we receive from suppliers," notes Stokes president Wayne Gale. "During the 1980s, it was also a breeding station for our sweet corn, peppers and tomatoes. Today the only seed it produces is foundation seed to support contract growing of varieties developed byStokes Seeds. It still also hosts the annual trials, of Course."
