USG and partners recycle drywalls

Us USG Corp.expects to divert thousands of tons of waste through a couple of new programmes aimed at scrap drywall and old ceiling tiles.The Chicago-based company is partnering with Gypsum Recycling America LLC to collect new drywall scrap - cut pieces left over from the installation of walls - that will be processed by a mobile recycling machine.Gypsum Recycling America began collecting scrap in Cambridge,Mass.,in March 2006 and will process the material this fall into gypsum powder,USG said.That powder then will go to USG's Charlestown,Mass.,wallboard plant where it will go into new drywall.USG plants in Stony Point,N.Y.,and Baltimore,Md.,eventually will use the recycled gypsum as Gypsum Recycling's operations grow.
