Cost-effective access to interstate and export markets is within reach of Queensland stonefruit producers using two millimetre diameter mesh exclusion netting canopies. Total lock-out of fruit fly has been achieved during two years of research and development at the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries Maroochy Research Station, at Namb'our. This has the potential to significantly increase revenue to Queensland's producers through increased market access and elimination of current costs incurred by growers in treating fruit exiting the state.
