If winemaking is about best expressing the grapes and their terroir, then there's no better way to achieve that than by following biodynamic practices, says wine grape grower Bill den Hoed of Grandview, Washington. "Winemaking is ail about pure, cleanexpressions of fruit. That's what we try to do in winemaking. Biodynamics is the best way to do that." Den Hoed is a partner with his brother and father in Vigneron Management LLC, the management arm of Wallula Gap Biodynamics Vineyard, Wallula Vineyards, and family vineyards in Yakima Valley. Den Hoed's view on biodynamic farming has come a long way since a phone call he received in 2002 when the late Stan Clarke asked if they were interested in a grape project with Randall Graham, an eclectic winemaker from Santa Cruz, California.
