Kinder Morgan Acquires Jones Act Shipping Tankers in U.S.

Houston-based pipeline giant Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP will spend nearly US$1 billion to enter the U.S. tanker business, the company announced December 23. Kinder Morgan said it will acquire American Petroleum Tankers (APT) and State Class Tankers (SCT) from private-equity firms Blackstone Group LP and Cerberus Capital Management LP for $962 million in cash.
