Earlier this month, New Jersey-based start-up Liquid Light unveiled a novel process for producing key petrochemicals from waste carbon dioxide (CO2)—showcasing its demonstration-scale “reaction cell” and confirming the potential for cost-advantaged process economics. Backed by a host of reputable investors that include VantagePoint Capital Partners, BP Ventures, Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital and Osage University Partners, Liquid Light’s core technology centers on low-energy catalytic electrochemistry that converts CO2 to chemicals, combined with a hydrogen source (i.e. water) and purification steps.
