摘要

Few corrections to the paper `The interplanetary events of January-May, 1997 as inferred from energetic particle data, and their relationship with solar events' by H. V. Cane, I. G. Richardson and O. C. St. Cyr are detailed. A re-examination of the LASCO C2 data, it can be seen that the coronal mass injection (CME) had an angular spread of only 67° and hence should not be classified as halo/partial-halo CME. Also, contrary to the article's claim, only one, not all of the three distinct CMEs observed on April 27, 1997, was Earthward-directed; the other two were likely to have originated on the backside of the Sun. Similarly, the April 16 CME was likely to have been a backside event, and not Earthward-directed.
