Soyer or not Soyer, that was the question

Some twenty odd years ago Chris Bryant, a dealer in military antiques in the U.S., phoned me as he had heard that I did enamel repairs and he was having a hard time finding anyone in the U.S. that did. After a few years of doing the repairs on the odds and sods he sent me, he announced that he was coming up to Canada on a business trip, that he had some enamel that his grandfather had brought back to the States from Paris a hundred years ago, and that he wondered whether I had any interest in it.
