The importance of on-line measurement techniques is continuously on the increase, especially regarding coatings in the glass industry. This article takes a look at these coatings, their transmittance behaviour and the setting up of complete measurement of reflectance, transmittance and sheet resistance, both in situ and ex situ. In the last few years, optical on-line measurement techniques have become more and more important due to increasing complexities of optical coatings in the glass industry. The structure of some typical coatings (low-emissivity and solar control coatings) are shown in Figure 1.
