The geographies of the creative industries:scale, clusters and connectivity

The creative industries comprise one ofthe fastest growing sectors of the UK economy. Thisarticle introduces the geographies of theseindustries in the context of recent government policythat regards the sector as a catalyst for economic,social and cultural regeneration. It then focuses onone region, the South West, and one sub-sector, thedigital media industry, as a background to exploringthe activities of the creative agency South WestScreen and the company Spider Eye Animation.Thinking about these organisations enables us toexplore the clusters, networks and connections thatcharacterise the geographies of the creativeindustries and to illuminate the links between local,regional, national and international scales.
