ExxonMobil Begins Drilling at Point Thomson

ExxonMobil began drilling the first of two wells at Point Thomson on the North Slope of Alaska this month following the completion of a 50-mile ice road and airstrip. The wells are initially being drilled for oil, but may be converted to natural gas, and are expected to be completed by 2010 and produce 10,000 b/d of oil and NGLs by 2014. The company, which is in the midst of a dispute with the state over Point Thomson leases, estimates the project cost at $1.3 billion (GPR 3/13/08).
