Total and GDF Suez buy 25% of Kazakh gas field

French companies Total and GDF Suez have signed Heads of Agreements with Kazakhstan’s state energy company KazMunaiGaz, to purchase a 25% stake in the Khvalynskoye offshore gas field near the country’s border with Russia. Total chief executive Christophe de Margerie said the companies would invest around $1 billion to develop the field.
