Drilling by remote radio control and plc system

Conrad Stanen BV, reports that it has completed a contract for a telescopic drilling mast mounted on an eleven ton Zaxis 110 excavator from Hitachi for a Belgian client. The machine is used for placing filterpipes for dewatering projects. All functions both of the excavator and the drilling unit are controlled by means of a lightweight remote radio control unit. The telescopic mast is made of two steel tubes of 250 mm square, each 7.7 m long which move along each other by means of rollers, over guide strips welded on each tube. The fixed part of the mast is fitted to the excavator's boom and a hydraulic cylinder moves the mast from the horizontal to vertical position and vice versa.
