The news that over-the-counter (OTC) trades at the Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) hub had exceeded those at the UK's National Balancing Point (NBP) this summer again raised the question of whether the TTF could eclipse the NBP. While for many market observers this was merely a demonstration of the TTF's increasing importance in Europe, for brokers it was a reminder that the OTC share of the hub is shrinking, being squeezed out of the UK market in favour of the exchange. Gas Strategies speaks to Derek Willis, spokesman for the London Energy Brokers' Association (LEBA), about the recent shift to exchange trading in the UK, and asks whether, with the TTF becoming increasingly liquid, this trend could occur at the Dutch hub as well.
