Web-based applications for the dissemination of geological information

摘要

The geosciences play an important role in society, not only in advancing science in general, but also in ensuring sustainable mineral, energy and water resources and in providing solutions for mitigating environmental hazards. Geoscientific data at a large scale is unfortunately not readily accessible and the problem is exacerbated in respect of African geological data. With the advent of space travel and research, robust computing and information systems as well as satellite imagery have now become available.
