The Council for Geoscience held its first "Open Day" on the 31st of May and the 1st of June 2001 (Open Days?).The Open Day exhibits were laid out in the foyer and cupola of the CGS' Silverton building.The 31st of May was set aside for school groups - most of the schools that made use of the opportunity were from the Pretoria/Tshwane municipal area but we had one college from Johannesburg visiting and even some University students were spotted!Representatives from the various Units of the Council had great fun trying to communicate scientific information enthusiastically and entertaining the often exuberant groups of learners. Each trying to portray his part of the earth sciences as the alfa and omega!
