Recent trends in medical statistics: their relevance to evidence-based medicine and to complementary alternative medicine.

The last 2 decades have witnessed an increased interest in clinical methodology. Two factors have possibly favored this attitude. One is the diffusion of evidence-based medicine (EBM), which basically relies on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for validation of the efficacy of medical interventions. The other is the alarm generated by the numerous false-positive results appearing in the medical literature (1).
