Deregulation of energy markets force utilities to reengineer customer service processes. Beyond metering submetering, home security management, outage detection, load profiling and energy management issues create additional revenues thereby threngthening customer relations. Residential and industrial automatic meter reading are the key to enhance utility operations. New services, technologies used and investments are discussed in detail.
