Complaints against gastroenterology fellows

As trainees, gastroenterology fellows are constantly being evaluated and scrutinized by those around them— ranging from interns to attendings, technicians to hospital administration; in the outpatient clinic, on the inpatient wards, and in the endoscopy suite. Complaints are not uncommonly filed against fellows, although few lead to serious repercussions. In this month's Fellows' Corner, Dr Mitchell Cappell, the current gastroenterology fellowship program director at William Beaumont Hospital, provides insight on the types of complaints filed against gastroenterology fellows and proposes recommendations for both fellows and program directors on how to best avoid and manage these uncomfortable situations.
