The Edinburgh experience with two small-bowel capsule endoscopy systems.

We read with great interest the prospective study by Pi-oche et al1 on the use of two small-bowel capsule endoscopy (SBCE) systems in patients with obscure GI bleeding. In this prospective, multicenter trial from 7 French referral centers for capsule endoscopy, 73 patients with extensive and negative prior work-up for obscure GI bleeding were enrolled. They each ingested 2 different capsules (PillCam, Given Imaging, Yokneam, Israel; MiroCam, IntroMedic, Seoul, Korea) at 1-hour intervals and in random order. The two systems provided comparable results in the diagnosis of obscure GI bleeding (31/73 concordant negative results and 30/73 concordant positive results, k = 0.66).
