EUS-guided FNA of a peripancreatic lymphocele.

The widespread use of CT and US has increased detection of pancreatic and peripancreatic cysts. The emergence of EUS and EUS-guided FNA (EUS-FNA) have considerably altered the evaluation and the management of these lesions. While the majority of peripancreatic cystic lesions are pancreatic pseudocysts, other rare considerations may include retroperitoneal cystic masses such as lymphoceles.There is no distinctive imaging feature or diagnostic test for the diagnosis of lymphoceles. Therefore, a composite of the characteristic gross appearance and the biochemical and cytologic features of the fluid content often is required for a definite diagnosis. Here, we describe the first use of EUS-FNA for diagnosing a retroperitoneal lymphocele in a patient presenting with a peripancreatic cyst.
