Philippine City Inks Gasification Waste-to-Energy Project Deal

San Fernando City, Philippines, inked a 25-year contract deal with Spectrum Blue Steel late last month for a gasification-based waste-to-energy (WTE) project. According to a report from the Manila Standard, the estimated capital cost for the project is P$13.5-billion (US$279 million). A pilot plant would be built and open next year at a six-hectare site that once served as a garbage dump. Ruth Briones, chairman and chief executive of Spectrum Blue, was quoted as saying that the initial plant will be a pilot for a "zero waste" project.
