The CGA is poised to play an important role in the emerging hydrogen economy. As the U.S. TAG Administrator for ISO TC 197, hydrogen technologies, for the past 10 years, the CGA has a front row seat in this arena. The CGA Hydrogen Fuel Technology Committee is already working on proposed publications, including H-l, Conditions of Service for Portable, Reversible Metal Hydride Systems; H-2, Guidelines for the Classification of Hydrogen Stored in Metal Hydrides; and PS-17, CGA Position Statement on Underground Cryogenic Hydrogen Storage. The committee is also working with NGV2, ASTM, SAE, NFPA, and Sandia National Laboratories' hydrogen programs. The CGA is also working with the Department of Energy (DOE)/National Renewable Energy Laboratory on several hydrogen project proposals. The DOE is the lead agency in the commercialization of hydrogen as a fuel. Specific programs include hydrogen storage, hydrogen production and delivery, fuel cell development, and hybrid vehicle development.
