In the pathology section of the Hunterian Collection numerous specimens are from deceased patients, many of them identified by name in the case books.The fact that the dissection of royalty and the aristocracy took place lent a modicum of social prestige to the procedure. As a consequence, Hunter was able to accumulate a remarkable variety of pathological specimens from his large and varied practice. Not only did he study these assiduously but, by preserving them expertly, he provided future generations with a wealth of material in which disease processes were displayed in relation to anatomical sites and correlated with clinical histories,
