Psychotherapy Training in the Netherlands

Psychotherapy training in the Netherlands comprises several government-acknowledged training programs resulting in official registrations, i.e. as psychotherapist, health care psychologist, clinical psychologist, and clinical neuropsychologist. Each program has its own identity, learning outcomes, and focus, and contains a theoretical part and a practical part with the theoretical part offered by government-assigned training institutions and the practical part implemented in (mental) health care institutions which are audited by the training institution. Although the prog rams have their own requirements and qualifications which institutions have to meet, they are only open to people having at least a master's degree in medicine, psychology, orthopedagogy or mental health sciences. Supervision is provided by the health care institution and consists of a fixed number of hours for each program. In the field, the members of these professions work closely together and are on good terms. It is also important fr them to keep recognizing their own competences and limitations in order to offer high-quality care to the individual client.
