Demand aids first quarter profits at Asian Paints

INDIA Asian Paints recorded a 37% increase in pre-tax profit for the first quarter of its 2007/08 fiscal year.Profit before tax for the quarter ended 30 June 2007 rose to Rs.1252.2 million from Rs.911.9 million during the first quarter a year ago.The company,which is India's largest paint producer,said:"The industrial coatings business also performed very well with all segments including automotive,powder and protective coatings displaying strong growth.
