Two new technologies for creating Foamed-in-Place Foamed Gaskets (FiPFG) are opening up a means to create more durable sealing surfaces that can integrate new levels of functionality. FiPFG materials and systems specialist Sonderhoff Chemicals has developed its FermaSkin technology to produce a gasket with a conventional soft polyure-thane foamed core encased in a tough and flexible elastomeric polyurethane outer skin. The technology is claimed to yield a final foamed tensile strength of greater than 400KPa and elongation at break of 160%.
