ICUD-EAU international consultation on bladder cancer 2012: Recommendations on bladder cancer - Progress in a cancer that lacks the limelight

It has been my privilege to chair the recently completed International Consultation on Urologic Diseases (ICUD) Recommendations on Bladder Cancer, After >1 yr of intense interactive and enthusiastic collaboration of > 100 experts in various aspects of bladder cancer (BCa), the recommendations from the 10 committees were presented at the 2011 European Association of Urology (EAU) Congress in Vienna on March 18, 2011. Each committee had a chair and co-chair, and they selected a broad-based group of men and women with expertise in BCa to work together in an effort to reach recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of this common cancer. This editorial emphasizes just a few of the highlights of the consultation. The papers that follow provide an expanded summary of the committee's conclusions as found in the book Bladder Cancer [1].
