Re: Post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence: A confluence of 3 factors

The urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy is a major problem, which significantly reduces the quality of life of patients. The incidence reported in the literature ranges from 3-74%.In the present paper the authors have analysed the results of publications which are available in the MEDLINE database on the topic of post-prostatectomy incontinence. They found a wide disparity of continence results determined by 3 main factors (definitions of continence, preoperative patient's selection, surgical technique). In the literature at least 10 variables were identified to define continence or to measure the degree of incontinence. The most important was to evaluate how the continence improves with the time after surgery.
