21st European Colloquium of Arachnology St Petersburg, Russia, 4th-9th August 2003

Approximately 100 people attended this official meeting of the European Society of Arachnology, hosted by the St Petersburg State University, the oldest university in Russia. It was dedicated to the memory of the late Professor Viktor P. Tyshchenko (1937-1986), who published the first key to the spiders of the European region of the USSR and inspired generations of Russian arachnologists. The meeting was officially opened on Monday morning by Professor Vladilen E. Kipyatkov of the University's entomology department. This was followed by a historical review of Russian/Soviet arachnology presented by Dr Kirill Mikhailov of the Zoological Museum in Moscow.
