AMTEL-VREDESTEIN NV (A-V) HAS CONFIRMED THAT IT plans to,"sell or otherwise dispose of" its tyre factory in Krasnoyarsk and has also announced the sale of its Amtel-Carbon carbon black factory in Volgograd.In late 2005,A-V also announced the acquisition of six tyre retail outlets in the Perm region of Russia."The Krasnoyarsk plant is a Soviet-era facility that primarily produces truck,agricultural and C-segment tyres," said a statement from the Russian-based tyre maker.These tyres,"do not fit with the company's current strategy" to focus on high-margin A- and B-segment tyres,used on premium and mid-range passenger vehicles," said A-V.According to A-V management,current demand for truck,agricultural and other specialised tyres can be met by outsourcing.
