摘要

John Hunter's collection in the Hunterian Museum of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, London, includes a wide range of animal pathology. Examples of his experimental work, mainly in the field of inflammation, are predominant but there is also material derived from domesticated and wild animals, both native and 'exotic'. Foremost among the 'exotics' are tissues taken from lions which, in the 18th century, were kept in menageries; some of the pathology represented might be attributed to the environment under which they were confined. The Museum remains relevant to current studies on veterinary medicine and is a resource that European pathologists could, and should, use in their work.
