LC-MS/MS is currently the method of choice for bioanalysis of small molecules due to its high selectivity, sensitivity and throughput. However, LC-MS/MS assays often encounter a few common bioanalytical issues such as matrix effect, interference peaks, low recovery and assay repro-ducibility, resulted from inadequate or inappropriate sample clean-up methods. Among these issues, matrix effect is one of the most complicated and challenging issues to deal with. It frequently occurs when analytes coelute with various endogenous matrix components including surfactants, salts and numerous organic molecules, such as lipids, proteins, peptides and carbohydrates [1,2].
