Differential expression of HOXB7 gene in multiple myeloma and extramedullary multiple myeloma patients.

To the Editor:Multiple myeloma (MM) is a B-cell neoplasm characterized by clonal expansion of plasma cells in the hemato-poietic bone marrow (1). Events such as alterations in the expression of transcription factors might be critically involved in MM (2). The deregulation of homeobox (HOX) genes is known to play an important role in fundamental processes in hematological malignancy (3, 4). Recently, Colla et al. (3) showed the presence of HOXB7 expression in 10% of MM patients studied.
