My bees have got off to a really good start this year. At the end of the winter I found myself with ten good colonies. By the beginning of May I needed to do two artificial swarms as queen cells had already appeared in two of my hives. I have left several bait hives around my apiary and three now have bees in which are swarms which have hived themselves. Could be mine, could be some other beekeeper's bees, but I am happy to have them. I collected a swarm in Paignton earlier in the week of really nicenatured bees. They were a pleasure to handle and I look forward to seeing how they do. So altogether now I have sixteen colonies, just about the limit of what I am able to accommodate so I think I shall be uniting a few colonies at the end of the summer in order to go through the winter with ten or twelve colonies.
