Traditionally, the month of May is the height of the swarming season, and this May was certainly no exception in Bishopsteignton.Unfortunately, a swarm (not ours) had decided to take up residence in our neighbours' chimney. They called the local swarm officer, who came round equipped with smoker, and high hopes. These were dashed when he discovered that the cunning bees had chosena chimney with a sealed fireplace at the bottom. My neighbours' sense of humour began to fail as the buzzing noise in their living room increased and the occasional lost bee found its way down the other (non-sealed) chimney into their daughter's bedroom.
