Why Buddhism particularly? Why not bees and any world religion? Let's come back to that. One afternoon recently I was doing an inspection of a hive, leaf shadows were sifting over me and over the frames. And the bees were quiet and docile, murmuring in the afternoon sunlight. Foragers went cruising away over my head to an ivy hedge. I watched them, tiny dots sailing off into space. And I thought, some moments don't get any better than this. Nothing was happening. And that was the point. This was oneof those aware here-and-now moments that just occasionally strike you between the eyes. Stillness. Space.
