摘要

In 1951, Lowbury reported that bacteria were becoming less sensitive to disinfectants over time, and, some years ago, Chapman [1] again reported a similar finding with different biocides, including quaternary ammonia, chlorhexidine, glutaraldehyde, and phenolic compounds, among others, due to the development of resistance mechanisms by some microorganisms, although the extent and rapidity of this resistance is much less than that of antibiotic resistance [2]. The main mechanism is microorganism impermeability [3], with other mechanisms like altered porins [4] and expulsion of the biocide introduced in the cell [5] also being reported, and even changes in a gene that provoke a change in a specific target, such as that which occurs when the Fab I gene mutates to produce enoyl reductase [6], which induces resistance to triclosan.
