Conservation and Efficient Use of Soils, the Indispensable National Riches of Russia

摘要

A detailed analysis of the major results of investigations into the main directions of soil science performed in 2000-2004 is given. It is shown that soil science as a multiple-discipline natural science plays the key role in the system of ecologicalsciences of the 21st century. The need for further advance and practical use of the methods of landscape-adaptive agriculture and sustainable land management is emphasized. The major challenges and priority tasks of further investigations are outlined. It is argued that the existing system of land Management and assessment of soil resources at the federal, regional, and local levels should be improved.
