Changes in the thickness of humus horizons and the holocene evolution of east european chernozems (mechanisms,factors,and regularities)

Factual data on the thickness of humus horizons of East European chernozems are generalized,and a reference curve showing changes in the relative thickness of these horizons during the second half of the Holocene is developed.Geographic distribution of the thickness of humus horizons in modern soils and Holocene paleosols is analyzed.On this basis,with due account for paleogeographic information,a scheme of climatic changes in the forest-steppe and steppe zones of eastern Europe within the last 5000 years is suggested.A conceptual model of evolutionary relationships between chernozemic pedogenesis and denudation processes in the Holocene is discussed.
