Ways to Improve the Scheme of Natural-Agricultural Zoning of the Territory of Russia

Merits and demerits of the existing scheme of natural-agricultural zoning of the terrtory of Russia are outlined.Ways to improve this scheme are discussed.It is argued that a more detailed and multiple characterization of environmental conditions within the lowest taxa of zoning (areas and districts) is required.The factors of soil formation,soils,and soil cover structures (soil combinations,complexes,and variations) of particular districts should be characterized,as well as the factors limiting the growth of certain crops.Information about the crops that are best adapted to particular environments should be also included in the scheme.All these data are necessary for implementing the strategy of landscape-adaptive farming into practice.
