摘要

The net emission of carbon dioxide from soils on the territory of Russia is estimated at 2.6 to 3.0 Gt C/year. The contribution of root respiration to the net emission constitutes 1.29-1.66 Gt C/year, depending on the calculation method. In total, the CO2 emission from all sources (soil, fossil fuel combustion, industry, forest fires, etc.) on the territory of Russia cannot exceed 3.2-3.6 Gt C/year. The carbon sink in net primary production is estimated at 4.5 Gt C/year. Therefore, the territory of Russia can be considered the global carbon sink with the carbon sequestration capacity of about 1 Gt C/year.
