摘要

The highly dynamic, chromatinized eukaryotic genome is functionally fine tuned by several enzymatic and nonenzymatic factors. Among these, various small molecule modulators such as ATP, NAD+, Acetyl CoA, S-adenosyl methionine, glucose, etc which by virtue of their interactions and associations with various proteins, play key roles in the genome function including gene expression. There are other small molecules identified or synthesized which target important enzymes and proteins within the cell and have acted as probes to understand molecular mechanisms of chromatin function. This class includes the small molecule modulators (inhibitors/activators) of chromatin modifying enzymes, protein interaction disrupting molecules and transcription factor mimics which are also being explored currently for their therapeutic potential as well.
