Endovascular retrieval of an embolized pacing electrode from a pulmonary artery following device extraction.

Fragmented lead embolization is a rare but serious complication of lead extraction. The most common site for distal embolization is the pulmonary artery. In this location, clinical presentation can be severe and the removal of the lead fragment can be challenging. For this reason most centres opt for a conservative approach. We describe the use of a bioptome to retrieve a lead fragment from the pulmonary artery. We demonstrate that this endovascular technique is feasible and safe.
