The rhetoric of people and grains

摘要

The complex intertwining of culture and environment, materialised into a rhetorical process of cultural and natural categories of evidence makes it impossible to separate between ''archaeology'' and ''environmental archaeology''. Therefore an archaeological approach to a prehistoric culture should reconstruct its metonymic and metaphoric rules from the synchronic and diachronic interactions of material culture, rituals and environmental data. The examples in support of a rhetorical archaeology are taken from the Cucuteni-Tripolye Chalcolithic culture.
