EIA: Biofuels Production Drives Growth in Biomass Use over Past Decade

Biomass energy consumption in the U.S. grew more than 60% from 2002 to 2013 with most of the growth almost entirely due to increased biomass used to produce biofuels, mainly ethanol, but also a smaller amount of biodiesel and other biomass-based diesel fuels, according to a March 18 “Today in Energy” note issued by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
