Landscape Chorology of Springtails in the Taimyr Peninsula: 1. Biotopic Distribution of Species

The many years' data on the biotopic distribution of springtail species recorded along a latitudinal gradient from northern taiga forests to polar deserts of the middle Siberian sector of the Arctic Region are summarized. Among springtails of the tundra zone, a fraction of species associated with intrazonal elements of the landscape, both hydromorphic and best-warmed ones, is the largest. A limited number of species prefer zonal habitats, whereas peculiar tundra species, distinguished by their biotopic preferences, are rarely found in Taimyr. The lability is the most specific feature of the intra-landscape springtail distribution in this Arctic region. This lability is manifested in natural changes of biotopic preferences of species in accordance with the well-known rule of "change of habitats." The reasons for the frequent occurrence and distinct manifestation of this mechanism, which smooth-ens the environmental conditions and provides for overcoming of climatic boundaries by springtails, are discussed.
